New Semaglutide and Tirzepatide Food Plans Emphasize Protein for 2026
Dr. Lipman’s new high-protein, low-carb diet can increase weight loss from routine GLP-1’s such as Zepbound, Ozempic, Wegovy, and Mounjaro by 10% to 14%. Some of the increase in weight loss is due to
- Increased fullness from the high-protein, low-carb diet
- Easier portion control
- Large selection of appealing high-protein snacks
- Reduced nausea and stomach pain.
In addition, this food plan is fast and safe, avoids side effects, and minimizes GLP-1 plateaus. The diet plan can be used by just about anyone, from teens to eighty, without difficulty. Of course, everyone needs to avoid high-sugar drinks and especially fast-food drive-thrus where there are few choices.
Focus is on High-Protein Foods with Each Meal
Semaglutide and Tirzepatide food plans are focused even more for 2026 on reducing carbohydrates while increasing protein to roughly 0.55 to 0.9 grams of protein per pound of body weight daily (about 20 to 30 grams per meal), Eat your protein first before other foods since you may be so full as not to finish the planned meal. Encourage protein at all meals and snacks, starting with breakfast. Table 1 below shows recently updated protein requirements for GLP-1 patients related to body weight:

Weight Loss in My Office using GLP-1’s with my new High Protein-Low Carb Diet
Whether you’re taking Ozempic, Wegovy, Mounjaro, or Zepbound, these menus will help you make the best choices for faster weight loss and fewer side effects. The food choices on the menus emphasize high-protein options, which promote fullness and reduce hunger and cravings. The many low-carb products introduced in recent years have been added to these weight-loss menus to encourage variety and fun.
I have personally treated many patients losing 100 to 150 pounds with these medications. A 20-lb weight loss in a month is not uncommon. Most of my patients lose about 20% or more of their starting weight in four months with the medications, combined with the meal plan.
The GLP-1 FOOD PLAN for ZEPBOUND, OZEMPIC, WEGOVY & MOUNJARO: HOW It WORKS:
Best food/liquid choices for rapid weight loss follow Dr. Lipman’s Low Carb Diet Plan with about the same calories, higher protein, and minimal fat. Liquid substitutes such as Protein shakes are discouraged. Higher-protein portions at lunch and dinner, and less bread, are suggested, with a single low-carb wrap per day or 1 or 2 very low-carb slices of bread.
Soups, nutrition drinks, and energy drinks are discouraged because liquids should be kept to a minimum around mealtime, as they can prolong the “delayed” gastric emptying caused by the medications. This causes a feeling of fullness for hours and reduces food intake. Note the protein and carbs in a typical GLP-1 diet below. Protein should be no lower than 80 grams in a female and 100 grams in a man. When plateaus and slowdowns are reached, we want protein intake to be as high as 120-130 grams per day. This means protein with each meal and even with snacks. Carbohydrates need to be kept below 50 grams, and even lower during periods of slowdowns. Table 2 shows Diet Plan Macros:

Foods and Drinks to Avoid
Avoid foods that are high in fat and sugar and low in protein: These foods travel quickly through your digestive system and quickly turn into fat. Sugary foods, white bread, pasta, rice and potatoes, granola, nuts, and seeds are not retained well in the stomach. High-fat foods will also slow your weight-loss progress. Food with oil, butter, and other fats is much richer in calories than foods without much fat. Fried foods, many prepackaged snacks, fast food, non-lean meat, and many baked goods are examples of high-fat foods to avoid. Be aware of the sugar, fat, and calorie content of your food, and plan so you know what you’re consuming.
Breakfast on Zepbound, Mounjaro, Ozempic, Wegovy Food Plan
Food choices for the semaglutide and Tirzepatide diet for breakfast include two choices. When on a semaglutide weight loss program, choosing a breakfast that supports your goals while keeping you full and energized is essential. Aim for a balanced meal with a mix of protein, healthy fats, and fiber to help stabilize blood sugar and promote satiety. Even fast-food options are presented when there is no other choice. Note in the Breakfast Menu below:
1. Very limited carbs, with 1-2 low-carb wraps and pita breads or a single slice of low-carb bread is acceptable.
2. All cereals are eliminated. The emphasis is on protein over carbs. Most cereals are high in carbs and low in protein. In addition, they are semi-liquid, pass easily through the stomach, and provide fullness only for short periods. High-protein, low-carb bars make easy breakfasts and snacks for those on the run.
3. Thick, heavy protein shakes and smoothies are to be avoided.
4. Increased protein with bacon, ham, turkey, and chicken, as well as the usual eggs, is shown below in the breakfast menu.

A great option is a veggie omelet made with eggs (or egg whites) and a variety of non-starchy vegetables like spinach, bell peppers, and mushrooms. Pair this with a slice of whole-grain toast or a half-cup of berries for fiber. Note in the breakfast menu, only the low-carb bread (40 calories, 3 carbs) and the waffle have low protein)
Another choice could be Greek yogurt or cottage cheese topped with a small handful of low-sugar fruit, such as berries or a small apple. This combination provides protein, healthy fats, and fiber without spiking blood sugar. These breakfasts align with the goals of a semaglutide program by providing sustained energy, supporting appetite control, and helping with weight management. Avoid granola or chia seeds in your yogurt.
Lunch on Zepbound, Mounjaro, Ozempic, Wegovy Food Plan
Food choices for a semaglutide and Tirzepatide diet for lunches are high in protein, fiber, and healthy fats, which are essential for maintaining energy levels and controlling hunger while on a semaglutide diet. They are also easy to prepare and adaptable to different tastes and preferences. Again, a few fast food lunches are included. Hold the fries —please.

For a semaglutide diet plan, especially when excluding rice, pasta, potatoes, quinoa, and beans, lunch should focus on lean proteins, non-starchy vegetables, and healthy fats to keep you satisfied and support weight loss. Here are suggestions for food choices for semaglutide and Tirzepatide diets:
Grilled Chicken Salad ** Start with a base of mixed greens such as spinach, kale, and arugula. Add grilled chicken breast for lean protein. Incorporate a variety of colorful vegetables, such as bell peppers, cucumbers, cherry tomatoes, and red onions, ons for fiber and essential vitamins. Top with avocado slices for healthy fats. Dress with a light vinaigrette made from olive oil and balsamic vinegar. Avoid seeds and nuts because they add too many calories.
Turkey Lettuce Wraps:** Use large lettuce leaves as wraps and fill them with slices of roasted turkey, thinly sliced cucumbers, shredded carrots, and a few slices of avocado. You can add a small amount of hummus or a light dressing for flavor. These wraps are low in carbs, high in protein, and easy to prepare.
Zucchini Noodles with Pesto and Grilled Shrimp:** Spiralize zucchini to create noodles (or use pre-made ones). Toss the zucchini noodles with homemade or store-bought pesto, then top with grilled shrimp.
Shrimp is low in calories but high in protein, making it an excellent choice for a weight-loss diet. The pesto adds flavor without the need for high-carb ingredients.
Egg Salad Lettuce Cups. Make an egg salad using hard-boiled eggs, a bit of Greek yogurt or mayo, mustard, and chopped celery. Spoon the egg salad into large lettuce leaves for a crunchy, low-carb wrap. Include a side of sliced radishes, cherry tomatoes, and a small portion of cheese for healthy fats.
These lunches are designed to be nutrient-dense, satisfying, and supportive of your weight loss goals on a semaglutide diet plan, without relying on high-carb foods.
Snacks: Zepbound, Mounjaro, Ozempic, Wegovy Food Plan

When following a semaglutide diet plan, having access to high-protein, low-carb snacks that are conveniently portioned can help you manage your blood sugar, support weight loss, and maintain portion control. Here are some individually packaged snack options that are ideal for diabetics and those focused on weight loss:
Cheese
- String Cheese: Low-fat string cheese sticks are easy to grab on the go and provide about 6-8 grams of protein per serving with minimal carbs.
- Mini Babybel Cheese: These come in individually wrapped portions and offer a satisfying dose of protein and calcium with very low carbs.
Jerky
- Beef or Turkey Jerky: Choose jerky that is low in sugar and sodium, available in single-serving packs. They are high in protein, portable, and satisfying, making them perfect for diabetics and weight loss.
- Salmon or Tuna Jerky: These options offer a leaner alternative rich in omega-3 fatty acids, supporting heart health while remaining low in carbs.
Greek Yogurt
- Single-Serve Greek Yogurt Cups: Opt for plain or low-sugar varieties that are high in protein (around 15-20 grams per serving) and low in carbs. You can add a small handful of berries or nuts for added flavor and texture.
Protein Bars
- Low-Carb Protein Bars: Brands like Quest, Atkins, Pure Protein, and the lowest-calorie Protein One offer low-carb, low-sugar protein bars that provide 15-20 grams of protein per bar. Choose those with natural ingredients and minimal added sugars to avoid blood sugar spikes. These make ideal snacks because of their high protein, low-carb, and easy-to-portion nature.
Hard-Boiled Eggs
- Pre-Packaged Hard-Boiled Eggs: Available in ready-to-eat packs, hard-boiled eggs are an excellent source of high-quality protein and healthy fats. They are perfect for a quick snack that keeps you full longer.
Hummus and Veggie Packs
- Single-Serve Hummus with Veggies: Many grocery stores offer hummus in individual cups paired with pre-cut vegetables such as carrots, celery, or cucumbers. Hummus provides a moderate amount of protein and healthy fats, while the veggies offer fiber and essential nutrients.
Cottage Cheese

Low-Fat, Low-Sugar Ice Cream Bars
- Low-Calorie Ice Cream Bars (e.g., Halo Top, Yasso): Many brands offer individually packaged ice cream bars that are low in fat and sugar yet still satisfying. These bars typically range from 80 to 100 calories per serving, with a decent amount of protein (around 5-7 grams) and minimal sugar. Often, they are sweetened with natural alternatives like erythritol or stevia. They provide a guilt-free way to satisfy your sweet tooth without derailing your diet.
Dinner: Zepbound, Mounjaro, Ozempic, Wegovy Food Plan
Food choices for a semaglutide and Tirzepatide diet focus on high protein and low carbs, with major carbs limited to 2-3 times a week. A well-balanced dinner can be both satisfying and aligned with your weight loss goals.

.
Grilled Fish or Chicken with Roasted Vegetables and Cauliflower Mash:
Protein: Start with a high-quality protein source, such as grilled salmon. Rich in omega-3 fatty acids, salmon supports heart health and provides a satisfying, protein-rich base for your meal. Season the salmon with herbs like dill, garlic, and lemon juice, then grill or bake it until it’s flaky and cooked through. Other fish like tuna, tilapia, and sea bass can be substituted. Chicken breast can also be used.
Vegetables: Opt for a mix of non-starchy options such as broccoli, Brussels sprouts, and zucchini. Toss them with olive oil, salt, pepper, and a bit of garlic. Roast them in the oven until they are tender and slightly caramelized. Roasted vegetables are low in carbs and high in fiber, helping you feel full and satisfied.
Starch: To replace traditional mashed potatoes, prepare a cauliflower mash. Steam or boil cauliflower florets until soft. Then blend them with a little butter, garlic, and a splash of milk or cream for a creamy texture. Cauliflower is a low-carb vegetable that provides a similar mouthfeel to mashed potatoes but with far fewer carbs.
Salad: You can add a simple side salad of mixed greens with a light vinaigrette to round out the meal. The combination of healthy fats from the salmon, fiber from the vegetables, and protein will help keep your blood sugar stable and your hunger in check. Note the low-fat, low-calorie salad dressings and the olive oil substitutes such as Bertolli spray olive oil with “0” calories.
