Weight loss programs that you may have tried before are almost always eliminatory: whether they categorize foods by carbs, fat, protein, or counting or assigning points to everything,they simple end up eliminating large groups of foods. They are not suitable to the whole family. Dr Lipman's 100 Calorie Secret Diet Plan is for adults, kids and teenagers. It offers a unique and easy system for each member of the family to reduce his calorie intake by 100 to 200 calories per day. Each 100 calories more or less per day you eat over a year represents a 10 lbs. weight gain or loss. This is incredibly easy since no one will miss 100 calories a day, which is 2/3 of a glass of juice, a glass of low fat milk or a single cookie.
Dr Lipman call the causes of weight gain - diet secrets. They can be foods, beverages, or even food patterns that account for an extra 100 calories a day. An extra 100 calories a day translates into 10 lb. weight gain in a year. Why call these consistent, often subtle mistakes children and adults make “secrets?” Because most people do not realize how significant a few daily mistakes can be. If they do, they don’t know which ones to change first.
Diet secrets include not only the obvious fast foods, sugary drinks, snacks, and desserts that everyone recognizes, but the less obvious salad dressings, and even skipping meals—especially breakfast and lunch. Often the beverages or food are either high in calories, fat, or carbs, often have serious portion control problems What is common to all of these secrets is that they are the cause of rapid weight gain for just about everyone. In the case of skipping meals lead to hunger and loss of control of the day’s foods.
A 100 calorie diet secret can also be healthy foods that when consumed in excess exceed the calorie intake for the day and result in weight gain. A common example of this occurs when a child or teen eats a large lunch at school and then ends up eating a second large meal at home at dinner-resulting in eating two large meals within the same day. Both meals may consist of very health promoting food, but in the end the total calories consumed becomes far in excess of the individual’s needs.
Why does changing eating in 100 calorie a day units or food or beverages simplify weight loss. For one, it’s easy to accomplish, and at the same time does not lead to feelings of deprivation because not all of the favorite foods are eliminated. Children and adults will eat whatever is put in front of them and think that’s the correct portion. Moreover, the era that successful weight loss depends upon eliminating one food group for another is outdated. It simply does not work.
The 100 Calorie Diet Secret Plan is different. Changing a single diet secret saves at least 100 calories a day. It can be a daily secret like sodas, and fruit juices (140 calories for the drink vs. 0 calories for a zero sugar drink: 140 – 0 = 140 calories savings) that results in a 100 calorie or more savings. It also can be a once a week secret like fast food or large lunches (1000 calories for the lunch vs. 300 calories for the alternative sandwich: 1000-300 = 700 calories divided by 7 = 100 calories savings a day), each 100 calorie savings results in a weight loss of 10 lb. or more over a year. Obviously if the frequency of the diet secret is greater than the once a day or the once a week minimum, then the weight loss increases proportionally. Changing a 2nd and 3rd diet secret is like stacking one building block on another—the calorie deficits keep building up.
The majority of overeating and overweight children, unlike most adults, do not need a weight loss plan that is designed to lose 10, 20 or 30 lbs. Often just limiting the overeating is enough for the child or teen to arrive at normal weight by the yearly growth spurts each child undergoes as he matures. . Using the “ 100 calorie secrets” parents recognize the causes of their child’s overeating and and develop a simple system to get their child and teen eating healthier and moving.
